April 29th is People Powered Day of Action
LWVUS and LWVWI has declared April 29th as the “People Powered Day of Action”. Leagues around the state and nation are being asked to plan advocacy activities designed to raise public awareness on the issue of redistricting. We are also asked to call on our politicians to make drawing district lines based on the 2020 census a fair process. Leagues are asked to register their event with LWVUS not later than April 10th.
In response to this request a committee of LWVWRA members including Nancy Quick, Leo Thomasgard and Mary Dahm met via Zoom on March 23rd to plan a local activity. It was decided that Wisconsin Rapids Community Media (WRCM) would record and broadcast a program on upcoming steps in the redistricting process. For this purpose, Ed Miller, Professor Emeritus from UWSP was asked to participate in the program and gratefully accepted the invitation.
Please watch for the notice of this program on WRCM, our League website and Face Book page. It will be scheduled to air on April 29th. As always you are also encouraged to contact our local legislators urging them to back bills introduced in the WI Assembly and Senate creating a non-partisan redistricting body to draw our upcoming district maps.
