Several members of the LWV of the Wisconsin Rapids Area have received training allowing them to register voters in any Wisconsin Community. The League members will be registering voters at the AAUW book sale at the Rapids Mall on September 25 and 26, 2008 as well as at area schools. They hope to register many new voters for the upcoming elections.

The Wisconsin Rapids Area League and the Community Progress Initiative are sponsoring a Kick-Off meeting and inviting citizens to join them in study circles to study how to promote sustainability in our area and achieve economic, ecological and social goals, using different and innovative ways.

The Kick-Off meeting will be held September 11, 2008 at 7 to 8 PM in the McMillian Library McCourt Room. The book to be used for the study circles is The Natural Step for Communities by Sarah James and Torbijorn Lahti. Books will be available for purchase that evening.

League members will facilitate the study group which will begin the week of Oct. 1st and conclude the week of Nov. 20th. The study circles will meet for approximately 1 hour. Attendance at all sessions is not mandatory and make-up sessions will be available. We hope to generate ideas that communities can take to improve their environmental performance while improving their economic performance at the same time.
